Daughter of a doctor father and a nurse mother, Reese Witherspoon appeared at the age of seven in an advertisement for a local florist. Alongside her studies, she worked as a model. In 1991 she made her screen debut playing in a TV movie by Diane Keaton, entitled Wildflower, and playing a teenager in The Man in the Moon by Robert Mulligan. Since then Reese Witherspoon was promised a bright future in the movies: she triumphs in 1996 Freeway, a thriller by Matthew Bright, and won the Best Actress at Cognac Festival for her brilliant performance as a rebellious Little Red Riding Hood. The actress is comfortable in many genres: the story (Twilight (1998) by Robert Benton), the fantasy (Pleasantville (1998) by Gary Ross), the drama for teens (Cruel intentions (1999) by Roger Kumble), the satirical comedy (The Election (1999) of Alexander Payne, which earned her the Award of the National Society of Film Critics and an appearance at the Golden Globes) and the horror thriller (American Psycho (2000) by Mary Harron). She likes to embody genuine characters: a nice talented bimbo in Legally Blonde (2001) and its follower Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) or a young fashion designer in New York not knowing how to choose between two men in Sweet Home Alabama (2002) by Andy Tennant. On a more classical note, she takes a role in an adaptation of the work of Oscar Wilde - Vanity Fair (2005), where she tries to make progress in British high society of the nineteenth century. Reese Witherspoon adds a string to her bow by pushing the song along with Joaquin Phoenix, aka Johnny Cash in the biopic Walk the Line (2006). Her performance earned her the Oscar for Best Actress.
