Born on November 19, 1961 in Fairfield, Connecticut, the young Margaret Mary Emily Hyra was born of a casting director and a teacher. After high school, she moved to New York where she enrolled at the university. She graduated with a degree in journalism. To get some pocket money, she tried getting a role in a comedy and ... got very lucky by landing a role in what was the last film by the great George Cukor, Rich and Famous. She then could be found in the soap "As the World Turns" between 1982 and 1984. After her appearance in a corny third part of the Amityville series, Meg moved to Hollywood, found a role in the series "Wildside" and bingo!, is selected to play at the side of Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Her line "Take me to bed or lose me forever" made her a star, and Meg then started climbing the ladder of stardom. Two roles with Dennis Quaid (Innerspace and D.O.A.) and a couple, inseparable for many years, was formed. Finally, the great role of her life arrived in 1989 with When Harry met Sally, where her partner was Billy Crystal. The scene of the restaurant where she simulated orgasm remains in our memories... then we could find Meg regularly in a variety of roles playing beautiful women whose undeniable charm made wonders. Thus she could be seen in Prelude to a Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle, I.Q. or a French kiss. But still Meg seeked more challenging roles like playing a young alcoholic in When a Man Loves a Woman or a female soldier caught in the torment of the Gulf War in Courage Under Fire. She then appeared in Addicted to Love, the first film from actor Griffin Dunne, which revived what has been her glory, namely the romantic comedy. Meg Ryan persists in this genre with the City of Angels (remake of Wings of Desire), then with You've Got Mail where she once again meets her partner and director of Sleepless in Seattle, namely Tom Hanks and Nora Ephron. Soon before that she can bee seen in Hurlyburly, with Sean Penn and Kevin Spacey. We could see her along Hugh Jackman in Kate & Leopold. Soon after her first topless scene comes to the screens in In the Cut.
