The eight-octave singer Mariah Carey gained fame. Herr strengths: her talent and presence. Mariah Carey was born in Long Island (New York), from a Venezuelan father and an Irish mother. The latter, opera singer, encouraged her daughter to take interest in singing. Mariah Carey then participated in competitions for young talents and sang regularly for her friends. Since high school, she began to write her own songs and takes over singing. She moved to Manhattan and then took on many small jobs. She became a vocalist for Brenda K. Starr and then was discovered by the director of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola, who signed a contract with her soon. This was the beginning of a long career. In 1990, her first solo album debuted. The titles "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time" or "Someday" were a huge hit. Building on ther success, Mariah Carey recorded the album "Emotions" in the year following. Tommy Mottola and Mariah Carey then got married in 1993. The diva releases then couple of albums: "Music Box" in 1993 with the song "Hero", "Merry Christmas" for holiday season of 1994 and "Daydream" with the hit "Fantasy". The year 1997 meant a big change for the singer. After her divorce with Tommy Mottola, the she went through a metamorphosis like a butterfly, hence the name of her album "Butterfly". She radically changed her look and musical style, Mariah Carey created hit songs including "Honey," "My All" for which clips were very sensual. In 1998, a compilation of the best songs of the singer, "#1's", was released, including a duet with another diva, Whitney Houston, in "When You Believe" (original song for the cartoon "The Prince of Egypt"). In 1999, Mariah Carey recorded the album "Rainbow" where the first single is "Heartbreaker" in duet with Jay-Z. Songs "Thank God I Found You" and "Against All Odds" contributed further to her career. After a good run on a musical scene, Mariah Carey takes on the cinema in 2002. She made her first steps in the film "Glitter" where she plays the role of a singer. A film is almost auto-biographical. But the movie wasn't successful and the songs were even excluded from Mariah's house album. After changing her record company, Mariah Carey made a her return to the music scene with the album "Charmbracelet". A tentative return which will follow a severe depression. 2005 was the year of her real return. She made a success with the album "The Emancipation of Mimi." It revives a R'N'B style, she collaborates with prestigious producers like the Neptunes and Kanye West. On her tours several stars like Sean Paul and Snoop Dogg would join the singer on stage. In 2008 her 11th album "E=MC²" is released with the single "Touch My Body" reaching number one in the US.
