Charlize Theron was born in Benoni in South Africa, where she studied ballet for 12 years and was involved in productions such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Later, she started working as a model in Paris and Milan before moving to the United States and deciding to focus on her acting career. Among her major achievements is winning the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Monster, and starring in the drama, also winner of an Oscar, The Cider House Rules with Tobey Maguirey and Michael Caine. Theron had her cinematic debut in 1996 with the movie Two Days in the Valley, starring James Spader, Eric Stoltz and Jeff Daniels. Then, she appeared in the comedy Trial and Error by Jonathan Lynn with Michael Richards and Jeff Daniels. After that she starred alongside Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves in a thriller The Devil's Advocate. In 1998, Theron was part of the cast of Celebrity from Woody Allen alongside Winona Ryder and Leonardo DiCaprio. In addition, she starred in Mighty Joe Young, where she shares credits with Bill Paxton, in The Astronaut's Wife, The Yards, with Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, James Caan and Faye Dunaway, and John Frankenheimer's Reindeer Games, starring Ben Affleck. Later Tom Hanks invited her to join the cast of his debut as a film director - That Thing You Do!. Among her most recent works are Men of Honor with Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr.; The Legend of Bagger Vance directed by Robert Redford and starring Matt Damon and Will Smith and Waking Up in Reno. In her filmography there's also Sweet November with Keanu Reeves and the aforementioned Monster for which she won the Oscar.
